Artist Statement

My appreciation of art, life and nature motivate me to create my work. I am fascinated and inspired by the radiant colors and atmospheric movements in nature.

My work is influenced by my early training in Chinese calligraphy. I appreciate the art as its movement and rhythm touch my emotion and inspire my creation. The technique has become power to enrich my brushwork, revealing my sense of movement. Each impulse is released through marks in pre-determined actions executed through dipping, pressing, and turning with sudden variation of speed. The gestures merge with Western art techniques focusing on harmony, balance, and contrast to form my composition.

Abstraction does not limit my expression in form, color, or subject matter. The possibilities of abstract painting allow me to explore non-representational colors and forms to depict nature through my imagination. What my mind imagines is translated into abstract forms with my brush stroke. The forms evoke the qualities of landscape, human figures, or atmosphere representing energy, love, and hope.

Colors are consciously selected to support my optimistic attitude to life and the environment. To achieve a spontaneous unexpected result, I manipulate the immediacy by applying colors directly to canvas rather than from the palette. Applying layers of paints and transparent thin washes creates a flowing effect. The density of paint contrasts with the thin washes, which reveals the feeling of depth and contrast. The quicker I apply my brush stroke, the more experimental nature of painting shows.
